Shipment types

Shipments are categorized into multiple types.

Each shipment type has its own set of properties and rules.

caution

Different shipment types might have drastically different billing properties.

Contact DPD customer support for more info about shipment type billings.

Standard

This is the most common type of shipments.
It is a shipment that is picked up at a registered customer address by a courier and is delivered to an arbitrary receiving address.

The courier will first bring the shipment to a DPD depot.
The shipment is then routed from the DPD depot to its destination.

note

The main differentiating property of this shipment is that it is picked up at a registered customer address.

These addresses are the depots/warehouses/... of the DPD customers.

Subject relations

  • Sender
    • Has to be a registered customer address (CZ)
  • Receiver
    • Can be an arbitrary address
  • Payer
    • Has to be a customer address
    • Has to be the same as the sender customer address
    • Can be inferred (optional input)

Parcel labels

You will have to print the parcel labels yourself.

note

Some parcels might have multiple labels.

This depends on the shipping service that is used.

info

You can retrieve the parcel labels in your preferred format using the appropriate API endpoint.

Pickup orders

You are required to create a pickup order for your customer address.
The courier will pickup all parcels that have been given to him at the customer address specified in the order.

Specific parcel pickup orders can't be created for this type of shipment.

info

You can order the pickups via the appropriate API endpoint.

You can also setup recurring pickups by contacting the DPD support. (not supported by the API)

These addresses are the depots/warehouses/... of the DPD customers.

Third party collection

A shipment that is picked up by a courier at an arbitrary address and is delivered to an arbitrary address.

These shipments can be used, for example, when a DPD customer is cross-buying a product.
Meaning that he buys a product from a third party and has it delivered to his "customer"/destination but the DPD customer still pays for the shipping.

The main differentiating property of this shipment is that it is delivered from and to an arbitrary address.

But both of these address have to be in the Czech Republic.

Return

A shipment that is sent from a pickup point to an arbitrary address.

The arbitrary address is a registered customer address most of the times
as these types of shipments are usually used for returning "flawed" shipments to the DPD customer.

In this shipment the sender has to bring the shipment to a pickup point.
Then the shipment is sent to the receiving address.

note

The main differentiating property of this shipment is that it is sent from a pickup point.

Also one of the differences is the distribution of the parcel labels (see below).

Subject relations

  • Sender
    • Can be an arbitrary address (CZ)
    • Is actually sent from a CZ pickup point
  • Receiver
    • Can be an arbitrary address (CZ)
  • Payer

    • Can be different from the receiving address
    • Can be inferred in the case where the receiver is specified as a customer address

Parcel labels

The labels are physically printed by the actual sender.

You will be able to receive the label template in the PDF format via the API.

You are obliged to send the PDF label to the shipment sender via electronic means (email, ...)

Pickup orders

No pickup orders can be created for this type of shipment.

The shipment will enter delivery via the pickup point.
